CAPA SUCCESS

The Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) students at Bankstown Girls High School have had many wonderful opportunities and achievements this semester!!!  Students have excelled across many subjects, achieving successes in all.  Be it within their Visual Arts, Music, Photography or Drama classrooms to outside within the school and beyond within the wider community, all students have received energising, worthwhile, and rewarding experiences.  Some of our many successes were:

In MUSIC:  The BGHS Drumming Group has had wonderful achievements in presenting outstanding performances at both The Director's Choice and Schools' Spectacular.  All students ranging from Years 8 – 11, have made wonderful representatives of both the Music subject and BGHS community.  Bravo to all drummers!!!  In other Music news, our singing students have continued to rehearse in preparation for end-of-year festivities.  The Choral Group also sang for the local elderly community at a function at the Bankstown District Sports Club.  All who attended said the girls sang beautifully.  Well done!

In VISUAL ARTS & PHOTOGRAPHY:  The Visual Arts and Photography students have experienced a variety of exciting opportunities, whilst also presenting exemplary works this semester.  Two Year 11 Visual Arts students, Tam Tran & Stella Vu, have achieved outstanding results in their ceramics work within the National Art School Intensive Studio Practice Course.  The ceramics pieces produced by Tam and Stella were exhibited in a one night exhibition at the National Art School.  This has been such an amazing honour and valuable experience for these talented students, rewarding them with well-deserved results and exquisite artworks.

Photography students from Year 10 have had the opportunity to interview practicing photographers and artists at the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) in the Photographic Art Forum.  A valuable experience for all involved.  Year 11 Visual Arts participated in ‘Artside In' and viewed the Picasso Exhibition at AGNSW, and selected students from Year 7 will attend the Open Gallery Program at the AGNSW on December 8th.  Students will be able to explore the art world beyond BGHS, and take innovative skills and new ways of looking at an appreciating art back to the classroom.  Well done to all Visual Arts students involved!

In DRAMA:  Students have been exploring styles of performance both within and outside the Drama classroom.  Having finally set up our new lighting system in the Drama Room,  some students have started to look at their Year 12 Individual Project work in a new ‘light'.  As our performance and HSC topic work ‘bubbles' along, we are exploring monologue  work and Design ideas.  Good luck Year 11/12!   Year 9 Drama are diligently preparing for our Bankstown Short Film Festival.  They have written, directed, acted and filmed their films and will be ready to present for judging in Week 9.  The Red Carpet will be out and popcorn ready to go!

Bravo, One and All!!
