The Making Learning Meaningful Project is centred on students developing a self-managed action research project based on a global issue. The emphasis is on the Transfer of Knowledge and Significance. Teams use the Guided Enquiry Based Learning strategy to work collaboratively, be able to analyse and evaluate, develop deep understanding of ideas, negotiate and communicate.
Each team is assigned a Learning Coach teacher to guide the girls in their investigation rather than an instructor who imparts knowledge.
One new and exciting part of this special Year 9 project is that instead of having lots of different subject assessment tasks to complete, Year 9 have one task that covers all subjects during this period. This means students can use the knowledge learnt in all subjects to complete the assessment task.
Student assessment is based on three components:
- a team film presentation of their Awareness Campaign
- the creation of an interactive Global Issues website
- an eLog record of student learning
The girls present their completed products to a panel of judges including representatives from ABC TV and Bankstown Local Council. We are proud at Bankstown Girls High School as girls meet the school exit outcomes of what it means to be a global citizen.
