Healthy Bytes

Each semester, year 8 TAS students are broken up into 2 groups.  One group will complete the textile technology course entitled "Carried Away", while the other group will complete "Healthy Bytes".  The Healthy Bytes course investigates the impact our eating habits have on our health.  The students will design, prepare and present a range of nutritious foods including two of their own creations.  Their creations are prepared, photographed and collated into a class recipe booklet.  Students in each class are broken up into groups to complete various tasks related to the recipe booklet.  Throughout semester 1 2011, 8OS2 and 8OS3 participated in Healthy Bytes this semester and these are their stories ...

In Term 2 8S03TAS have cooked healthy, nutritious recipes. We created healthy muffins and sandwiches, for example Thoha created Turkish bread with chicken and sweet chilli sauce while Diem created blueberry muffins. These recipes are all healthy and nutritious.

To make the muffins healthy and nutritious we modified the recipe by changing the plain flour to wholemeal flour, full cream milk to low fat milk and added healthy ingredients that we preferred. Fatima for example created blueberry and dried fruit muffin while Meichen created a banana muffin.

We will not forget to mention that we also created healthy sandwiches that included different types of breads and different types of sauces. Some of the girls marinated the chicken and the aroma of the chicken was delicious. Asha's chicken was marinated in species that blew our minds.

We have come up with lots of ideas and we have put it in a 8S03 recipe book.

80S2'S HEALTHY HABITS TASK FOR TERM ONE AND TWO

During term 1 and 2 my class, 8S02 have been learning about diets and how to stay healthy so we have come up with some recipes that we can make that are healthy. During these terms our teacher Miss Martinsons has organised some recipes for us to do so we can get the idea of healthy habits.

In week 4 and 5 in term 2 we had to make our own recipe but we had a variety of things we could do and they were cookies, muffins and sandwiches.

But you would be thinking that is not healthy! Well, we had to add healthy things to put in it, for my muffins I put some desiccated coconuts, some sultanas, strawberries banana.

We also had to make a sandwich too so you might get the point of what 8SO2 did in these two terms. I also made a sandwich which I put some protein-fish, vegetables-tomato-cucumber and carbohydrates-bread. It was a nice and enjoyable term and looking forward to what we will be doing next term.
